  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Barrie John Unsworth (1934- ), electrical fitter and parliamentarian, was born at Dubbo, NSW the son of Joseph and Olive Unsworth. The family moved to Sydney and he was educated at Kogarah High School. On leaving school he was apprenticed as an electrical fitter and in 1961 became an organiser of the Electrical Trades Union. In 1967 he was elected to the Labor Council of NSW and was its elected Secretary from 1979 to 1984. Unsworth was an ALP member of the NSW Legislative Council from 1978 to 1986 and a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seat of Rockdale from 1986 until his retirement in 1991. Barrie Unsworth was Premier of NSW from 1986 to 1988.
