Thomas Hassall, letters received, 1811-1828, includes letters from Rowland Hassall (20), mainly concerning business matters, some written in another hand and signed by Rowland Hassall, and letters from friends and family members.

Thomas Hassall, manuscript copies of letters sent, 1817-1837, being mainly letters concerned with business and financial matters including: letters sent concerning the estate of Rowland Hassall; copies of correspondence with Reverend Walter Lawry concerning the sale of property in Parramatta; and records of outgoing correspondence, 1826-1837.

James S. Hassall, letters received, 1833-1856, being mainly letters received from Thomas Hassall (25) and including a letter dated 3 October 1835 informing James and his brothers and sisters of the death of their grandmother, Elizabeth Marsden.

Correspondence, being letters received by Thomas Hassall, 1816-1828; manuscript copies and draft copies of letters sent by Thomas Hassall, ca.1817-1824; letters received by Ann Hassall (2), ca. 1826; and letters received by James S. Hassall, 1850-1866.

Thomas Hassall correspondence includes letters received from Rowland Hassall (1), n.d.; letters received from Ann Hassall (2), n.d.; letters received from Lucy Hassall, 1822; and letters received from Samuel O. Hassall (77), 1816-1828. Letters from Samuel O. Hassall include detailed news of family and friends and of business matters concerning the running of family properties. Early letters were written while Thomas was studying at Lampeter, Wales, and visiting England, and later letters were mainly written from Samuel O. Hassall's home 'Macquarie Grove'. Copies of letters sent include mainly unsigned draft letters, some marked 'not sent', to various family members and friends while Thomas was overseas.

James S. Hassall, letters received mainly from Thomas Hassall (31), include details of family and business matters and give an insight into Thomas Hassall's family life, his religious convictions, his activities as an ordained clergyman, and his business activities concerning the management of family property.

Hassall (5), 1819-1829; Ann Marsden (Hassall) (11), 1817-1822; Elizabeth Mary Marsden (9), 1817-1826; Mary Marsden (4), 1819-1826; Martha Marsden, n.d.; Robert Campbell (3), 1826-1827; and Robert Mackay Campbell (30), husband of Ann Hassall (1808-1891), 1827-1834.

Ann Hassall, letters received include letters from her sisters Elizabeth Mary Marsden (8), 1826-n.d., and Mary Marsden (13), 1826; and from childhood friends Elizabeth Macarthur (14), n.d., and Mary Macarthur (3), n.d.

James S. Hassall, letters received include Elizabeth Mary Marsden (3), 1848-1869; William D. Campbell, 1857-1868; and Ingram L. Loft (2), 1853.

Frances Hassall, letters received from Ann Hassall (3), 1852-1859.

Samuel Marsden, letters received include letters from friends in England; W. Farrish, 1812, being a letter of introduction for a convict; and E. Dornford, 1814, being a letter concerning Dornford's efforts to assist Marsden in finding schoolmasters and chaplains for Port Jackson.

Thomas Hassall, letters received, 1818-1828, include letters concerning business and financial matters; and letters concerning convicts, being letters from family, usually in England, requesting details of the whereabouts and well-being of convicts including Sarah Thornton, James Boonham, William Giles Smith, William Sidney Smith, William Barrett, John Morris, William Hamilton, David Smith, and William Bursill.

James S. Hassall, letters received and miscellaneous papers, 1857-1895, include: letters received from family members, Catherine Payne Hassall (5), 1868-1869, Lucy Hassall, Robert Hassall, Kate Hassall, and Emily Hassall; letters concerning legal and financial matters, 1856-1869; and letters from prisoners at Berrima Gaol including John Taylor, John Druitt, Hugh Vaughan, and Billy Widebay, an Aboriginal prisoner, 1869-1873. Letters usually written by gaolers and signed by prisoners with their mark. Letters concerning prisoners at Berrima Goal, 1871-1872; letters written by gaolers concerning prisoners with whom James S. Hassall had contact in his capacity as Chaplain of Berrima Gaol; names of prisoners include James Vennell, Thomas Keevil, Thomas Hogan, George Kan also known as George Maher; letter received concerning a prisoner at Brisbane Gaol, Thomas Skuthorpe, 1874; and a letter from a prisoner at Brisbane Gaol, formerly of Berrima Gaol, William Edwards, 1878. Miscellaneous papers include fragments of notes and letters, n.d.-1895.
