  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Barnett Levey opened the Theatre Royal (the saloon of the Hotel Royal) on Boxing Day 1832.
    At the end of the 1835 season the Sydney Monitor declared the Theatre Royal to be neither respectable nor profitable. Joseph Wyatt became the sole lessee of Barnett Levey's Theatre Royal in mid-1836. On 27 March 1838 Mrs Levey closed the Theatre Royal.
